Popular Books I Haven't Read!

Hello fellow bookworms,
In today's blog post I am going to be doing a Tag! This is one I've seen on youtube and decided I wanted to do it on my blog.
What this Tag basically is, is me telling you all of the popular books/ book series that I haven't read yet. I say 'yet' because I do actually plan on reading some of these in the future.

  1. The Twilight saga. Twilight got popular when I was around the age of 9. I never thought of reading it at the time because they were such big books and I was not an advanced reader at that age. I've seen the movies so I do know what happens, but I still have the series on my Goodreads TBR list, though I am unsure if I will ever get around to them. I am honestly not that overly interested in them.
  2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (+the hobbit). Again, I have seen all the movies for these books and really enjoyed them. I have actually tried reading The fellowship of the Ring a few times, but ended up stopping because the text was too heavy... if you know what I mean. I might try listening to these as an audiobook just because I have heard that they are good books, but really hard to read. I do LOVE the movies though!
  3. The Percy Jackson series. I'm a bit on the fence about if I do ever want to read this series. I haven't heard too much about the books, but I have seen one of the movies and didn't love it (but books are always better than movies, right?). I might later on read this series, I might not. We'll see.
  4. The Fault in Our Stars. I literally have zero interest in this book or even the movie. I know what happens and I don't feel like reading or watching something that'll make me sad. I'm also not the biggest fan of John Green's writing or contemporaries for that matter.
  5. Game of Thrones series. I've been watching the show for a while and enjoy it, but I am always struggling to remember who is who. haha. The books do look very big and intimidating though, but I think I do eventually want to read them... maybe when I'm older.
  6. The Mortal Instruments / Infernal Devices. I am actually planning on reading these in the next month or so! I'm going in a bit blind, I only know that there's shadowhunters and clace...?
  7. The Pretty Little Liars series. I want to read these, but then I also don't want to... I used to be a big fan of the show, up until they started just dragging it out (JUST MAKE UP YOUR MIND ON WHO A IS!!!) The books also look like they've been dragged out quite a bit, I mean... there's 16 of them...
  8. Vampire Academy. I've seen the movie a few times and thought it was OK, I'm not sure if i'll have much interest in the books just because I don't really care for vampires that much. I might pick them up eventually because I have seen good reviews for them.
  9. Outlander series. I actually really want to have a read of this book (maybe not the entire series) after seeing Sasha's reviews on Abookuptopia on youtube. I started watching the show, but thought I should maybe just wait and read the books first, so I can appreciate and understand it more...
So, there you have it. My confession of all the popular/ hyped book series that I haven't read.
You can leave comments below if you do recommend any of these books and I might actually read them!
Thanks for stopping by.

Happy reading,

The Girl Online series by Zoe Sugg (Zoella) Review

 Girl Online Series review

Hello there my fellow bookworms,Today I am going to be reviewing Girl Online and Girl Online: On Tour by Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella).I just want to add a disclaimer, I am in no way hating on Zoella in any of the things I say (On the contrary, we actually share a lot in common), I am just giving an honest review which is all my opinion and that doesn't necessarily mean what I say is universally true to other people. Thank You!

Girl Online is a story following Penny Porter, a young, English Teen. Penny has a blog where she shares her troubles as a teen and struggles with anxiety after a traumatic experience several years prior to when the story takes place. During the novel, Penny and her family take a trip to New York for her parent's job, who work as wedding planners. During their New York trip, Penny meets the gorgeous teenage heart-throb, Noah Shaw and they fall for one another.

Girl Online: On Tour is the sequel and still follows Penny and now she is going on a European tour with Noah as his girlfriend. This sequel is about Penny as she struggles with fame and threats in the limelight as well as keeping her relationship afloat.

I read the first novel in the series when I was about 14 and I think that was about the perfect age to dive into this sort of book as there is no explicitness such as sex, drugs or violence. The second book, though, I read at 16 and I do believe that I am a little old for the plot now and I will talk about why in a few moments.
Penny, the protagonist, struggles with anxiety and I think for the ages 12-14 (which are the ages I recommend this book to), mental illness is a really key thing to understand. As someone who has dealt with mental illness, I do believe Zoe really pinpointed how it feels to have anxiety, so the struggles Penny goes through are authentic and real.
In the sequel, Girl Online: On Tour, I thought Zoe did a good job by adding in how penny got targeted/bullied over text and I think that, that is a really good lesson for the younger teen audience who would pick this book up. Cyber-bullying is very real in this day and age and is sadly quite common, the book shows how Penny deals with it and particularly for any readers who also deal with bullying, I think this is a very important issue to address.
I did enjoy Girl Online: On Tour more because It had a more complicated storyline and subplots than the first book, there was sort of a bit of mystery in this book which had you guessing and making differnt assumptions which I honestly think was a cool little nugget to keep the readers entertained.
However looking at the storyline from my age now, I do find that I do not enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. When I was reading the books, the sequel in particular, I just felt as though they were a fan fiction Zoe wrote about Justin Bieber or Harry Styles and she just switched a couple of the names around, (To be honest, I think I wrote the same fan-fic when I was about 13.) The sub-plots are quite superficial and not very deep (which is expected with a younger teen's book), I know that if I were to enjoy the series now, there would have to be some more complications, betrayal and heavier text.
I also look at the plot now and think it just sounds like one big cliche: The quiet girl meets this handsome, famous musician man and they go gallivanting around a city and falling in love and all of that mushy gushy stuff.
Enough about me focusing on the negatives. My ratings are:
Girl Online- 3/5
Girl Online: On Tour- 3.5/5

As always, Thank you for stopping by!

Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

Hello fellow bookworms!
Today's post is going to be a Tag or unpopular bookish opinions.
Please remember that these are just my opinions and I don't mean to offend anyone!

  1. A popular book or book series that you didn't enjoy:
I didn't really like the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. I didn't mind the first book at all, but then I feel like Insurgent and Allegiant were not my cup of tea at all. I read them when I was 13 and felt as though there was just too many complications thrown in and so much explaining and I actually didn't even finish the final book (I do know what happens, though). Looking back on the series I don't remember anything about them and didn't have any emotional attachments to the characters.
I'm not hating on the author at all, I think Divergent was a good book with a good concept, I personally just didn't enjoy the last 2 books and it just wasn't for me.
  2. A popular book or series that everyone seems to hate, but you love:I couldn't really think of one for this... but I thought of a compromise.
A lot of people who I have talked to liked the second Harry Potter book (The Chamber of Secrets) the least, but I actually think I like it the most!
  3. A love triangle where the main love interest did not end up with the person you wanted them to end up with:
For this one I chose Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard- Hold on before you bring out your pitchforks and torches.
This is going to be hard to explain without adding any spoilers.
But if circumstances changed and that guy wasn't such a psychopath, than I would want Mare to end up with him...
Sorry if that made no sense... I try.
  4. A Popular genre that you never reach for or read:
Probably Contemporary novels. I recently just haven't been too interested in contemporary plots or anything because I do find most of them a bit boring and not as thrilling as other genres. But don't get me wrong, there are some great contemporaries out there!
  5.  A popular or beloved character that you didn't like but everyone loves:
I'm starting to appreciate and like him better now, but I hated Rowan from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I thought he was arrogant and rude and annoying... but he's starting to grow on me.
  6. A popular author that you can not get into:
John Green. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I don't like his books! I find all the storylines to be somewhat pointless or boring in my eyes and the highest rating I've ever given one of his books is a 3/5 stars.
  7. A book trope that you are tired of seeing (I think a trope is like a plot or something):
I am a bit tired of seeing this love triangle where the girl ends up with one guy and swears she loves him, but then ends up with the other guy... know what I mean? I don't know why that annoys me, but it does.
  8. A popular book series that you have no interest in reading:
The Twilight saga... I might read them.... but I probably wont... not for the next 5 or so years I don't think. (Mind you I said this about The Mortal Instruments series and I'm reading them right now so who knows.)
  9. What book to movie adaptation is better than the actual book:
I can't think of one right now, but one where the movie sucked worse than the book was Paper Towns. I'm sorry, that was mean of me. I just didn't enjoy either of these.

So that was the entire Tag. Again, don't hate me if I disliked something you loved, it all just opinions. Do we have any opinions in common? Thanks for stopping by.

Happy reading,

25 Bookish Facts about Me!

Hello fellow bookworms!
I feel like I haven't properly introduced myself!
My name is Zoe, I am 16 years old and living in Australia.
As well as reading I enjoy, writing, fashion, beauty and nature.
And today I am going to tell you 25 book-related facts about me!

  1. My favourite series is Harry Potter
  2. I ALWAYS read before bed (I put it in capitals, bold, italics and underlined it so you would get the drift. Always.)
  3. I can't read outside... I get too distracted.
  4. I have always been encouraged by my parents to read at least 3 pages before bed, even since I was little.
  5. The longest book I ever read was probably Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (766 pages)
  6. I always rather UK edition books to US (which is lucky because I can only get UK)
  7. I wear prescription glasses, but only to see far away... like reading the board at school or street signs when I'm driving.
  8. I think the first YA (young adult) book I ever read was Switched by Amanda Hocking (+ the rest of the series) when I was 12. I got it for free with a magazine and actually loved it.
  9. I prefer books without full on sex scenes in them because I'm super immature and start laughing while reading them. I do like a bit of steaminess though... just not too over the top
  10. I don't know if this counts as a bookish fact, but I had the BIGGEST crush on Daniel Radcliffe (The guy that plays Harry Potter) when I was 11.
  11. Currently, I really like High Fantasy novels.
  12. My least favourite book ever is..... Allegiant by Veronica Roth- Don't hate me!
  13. I always hate the books I have to read for class... (maybe I'm just trying to be rebellious against school.)
  14. I read The Hunger Games for the first time at the start of 2016
  15. My ultimate life goal is to publish a novel and to be able to go to my local bookstore and see it on the shelf :)
  16. I am currently writing a YA high fantasy novel that is a retelling... (I'll tell you more some day.)
  17. I can't eat or drink when I read, otherwise I get too distracted
  18. I only enjoy reading paperbacks... hardcovers are too uncomfortable
  19. I have never met an author before, but I do have a copy of Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard which is signed
  20. I don't take notes while reading, and never have tried because I just like being present in the novel.
  21. I judge books by their covers... I don't buy ugly books unless I have heard good reviews on them.
  22. I used to always read the last page of a book before I started it- Don't worry though! I stopped that phase.
  23. I always have to finish a series eventually even if it's bad, otherwise I just feel strange and like something's missing.... I don't know how to explain it.
  24. I have read the entire Harry Potter series about 4 times ( and I've actually read The Prisoner of Azkaban 5 times)
  25. When organising my shelf, the series all have to stay together. I can't have book 1 on one shelf book 2 on another and book 3 somewhere else. The series need to stay in a nice, neat and ordered line.
So there you have it! A little bit more about me. I hope this was somewhat enjoyable and hey, maybe we have some bookish facts in common. Thanks for stopping by.
Happy reading,

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas book review

Hello my fellow bookworms,
Today's post is gonna be a good one because I will be reviewing Sarah J Maas' most recent book A Court of Mist and Fury. The first half of this review will be spoiler free for those who haven't read ACOMAF, but have read A Court of Thorns and Roses (The first book in the series).
The second half of the review is going to be a discussion which will include some major spoilers, but don't worry, I will give you a warning when the spoilers are coming for you who haven't started or finished ACOMAF.

Let me start off by saying that this book is for ages 16+. It is a new adult, high fantasy. Despite what goodreads or Ibook or whatever site you're looking at says, this book is not appropriate for anyone under the age of 16. I repeat, if you are under the age of 16, wait a couple years then read it.
The reason behind my nagging is because there are actually quite a few explicit sex scenes in this and I mean full on, very descriptive, in-ya-face sex scenes. Honestly, coming from someone who doesn't love sex scenes, I didn't mind the ones in ACOMAF at all. I thought Sarah (the author) wrote them in quite a classy way, which made the scenes kinda enjoyable.
Something I really enjoyed about this book was first of all: Feyre's PTSD. We all know back in the first book that Feyre went to hell and back to save Tamlin. She literally died and came back to life. So after an event like that, there was honestly no doubt that she would be effected somehow. But the way the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was written and staged was so well done. I really understood how Feyre was feeling becuase it was translated onto the page so well. In some books I find characters with PTSD quite agitating and whiny (I don't blame them for being like that, but sometimes they annoy me), but the way that Feyre's illness is expressed was so well put and not really shoved in your face like "SHE HAS PTSD, PITY HER!!!" know what I mean?
I was so delighted to also discover more about the brooding, High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand (pronounced Reese-sand). Rhys didn't have the biggest role in ACOTAR and I just really wanted to learn more about him. This sequel definitely did not disappoint. I will talk about him more in the spoiler-filled portion of this review, but just know that you will learn so, so, so much more about Rhys in this book.
There is of course evil and conflict in A Court of Mist and Fury. The main plot of conflict is revolved around the King of Hybern who was talked about briefly in ACOTAR. If you don't remember, Hybern is a Fae country and in old times, before they built the wall separating them from the human realms, the humans were the fae's slaves. So you can no doubt imagine that the King of Hybern is probably not the nicest guy, but he basically wants to break down that wall and enslave the humans again.
All in all, I felt this was a fast paced book which was very surprising seeing as it was 600+ pages. Honestly, I do not think there was a single dull moment where I was 'bored', while reading A Court of Mist and Fury. I gave it a 5/5 stars, but if I could I would give it 50/5 stars.

!!!SPOILER DISCUSSION!!!!

Lets begin by talking about all the new characters we get to meet in ACOMAF:
  • There is of course Ianthe, my new least favourite character. From the moment of Feyre and Tamlin's attempted wedding I knew she was trouble. I didn't think she'd be such of a bitch to actually sell Feyre's sisters out to that Conniving Bastard of Hybern. Honestly, I hope Feyre melts Ianthe with her badass powers.
  • Cassian. Cassian is kind of a ray of sunshine in Rhysand's court. He has a light, good sense of humour and always knows how to make someone smile. Then in the blink of an eye he can to into an Illyrian warrior in cool scaled armour. I was possibly the most heartbroken at the end of the book because of Cassian's wings. Illyrian warrior's love their wings and now Cassian's are shredded to pieces!
  • I adore Azriel. Even though we don't learn too much about Azriel's character, I still think that even though he is a stone-cold warrior, he has that light side come out, like when he and Mor went to dance, I really want to see that side of him more often.
  • Mor is such a strong and influential character. I actually see parts of Celaena Sardothien from Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass series in Mor... maybe I'm the only one. I actually think Mor is an amazing influence on Feyre particularly, seeing as Feyre is gaining her emotional and physical strength. I dont know if I skimmed over these parts or was half asleep while reading them, but I am a little confused about how she is The Morrigan, I just don't understand her signifigance, but fear not, I will read up about her.
  • Amren is like a nicer version of Manon Blackbeak (Also from the Throne of Glass series), even though she is a blood-sucking badass, she can be somewhat nice to Feyre and deep down, she really cares. I do want to hear more about what Amren is though, because I feel like the book touched on it, but didn't go into enough detail for me to truely understand Amren's character.
  • And of course we get to know more about Nesta and Elain who are now Fae too! I strongly disliked Nesta in the first book, just because she was so mean to Feyre and so unforgiving. But now that I have seen this side of her that is so strong and willing to fight, I actually kind of like Nesta now. Elain, though. I still don't know enough about Elain, so I can't really judge her.
I think now I need to vent and rant about Tamlin. Tamlin, Tamlin, Tamlin. I feel as though my love for Tamlin slowly decreased by every page in the first several chapters. He's so blinded by his love for Feyre and it frustrates me so much because I can't really hate him because he thought what he was doing was right, but it really wasn't. It honestly makes me wonder- after seeing him in this new control-freak, selfish light- it makes me wonder if he was always this way. In ACOTAR was he this dominant? Or was it just his lust blinding him... or then again, was it his jealousy of Rhysand making him go nuts? I. Don't. Know.
The fact though that he was so blind towards anything but his love for Feyre makes me want to just askjsbfahj!!!11!! How could he not tell she was dying? He was seeing her full on naked and stuff, but couldn't tell how sick she was. He somehow didn't notice that she had nightmares every night, even when they slept right next to one another. He sat with her while they were supposed to eat in the morning, yet he didn't notice that she wasn't eating a thing. WHAT. THE. HECK?!? I noticed too that some things Tamlin would say sounded as though he assumed he owned Feyre and that really annoyed me too; she isn't his pet, he doesn't own her, she owns herself.
And I knew he was going to end up doing something so incredibly stupid, like bargaining with the enemy, so it wasn't a surprise to see him in the throne room at the end of the book.
But Lucien... I get he is so loyal to Tamlin, but there is a line. Lucien could tell how effected Feyre was and that she was ill, he wasn't blinded like Tamlin, but I think Lucien was too scared to defy Tamlin, or go against Tamlin's strict wishes of having Feyre confined to the Spring Court grounds.

So the sexual tension between Rhys and Feyre... can we take a moment to appreciate it! Those little notes they'd write to each other made me smile so freaking much. And then they turn out to be MATES!!!! MATESSSS. M. A. T. E. S. I am still processing that and then they went ahead and go married!? And then Feyre is suddenly HIGH LADY OF THE NIGHT COURT!!! And the bond!
I actually stopped breathing when their bond 'got broken.' I was so pissed because that was 500 pages worth of bond building and it just went in the blink of an eye. But their bond ran too deep and Rhys was like 'lol Feyre's our spy now.'
I am actually kind of scared for Tamlin in book 3.

Ok so I think this is enough of me ranting for one post. I might make a part 2 discussion, just to reel off more things I found A-MA-ZING with this book. As always, thank you for stopping by.

Happy reading,

Love Zoe
